Granite is a very hard igneous rock that contains a lot of feldspar, quartz and other minerals. It is one of the three most common rocks on earth. Granite forms when magma cools and crystallizes before it makes its way to the earth’s surface.
Granite is quarried world wide in many different countries. Quarries can be found in Brazil, Ukraine, India, Canada, Africa, Iceland and the United States to name a few. The largest granite quarry on earth is located in Mount Airy, NC.
Granite is a very versatile material with thousands of uses and can be found worldwide in a myriad of projects old and new. Helsinki Central Station in Finland, The Pantheon in Italy, Monuments at Mahabalipuram in India, Mount Rushmore in the United States and St. Mary’s Cathedral Basilica in Canada are just some of the granite structures throughout the world that prove granite is able to withstand the tests of time and the elements.
Granite is versatile, beautiful and restorable if necessary. It adds beauty and durability to all sorts of projects, ranging from commercial to residential. And, since granite can be renewed and restored, it is a great investment that will remain beautiful for years to come.
Granite repair, polishing, protection, and maintenance.
Do you have chipped granite countertops? Are there cracks in your granite? What about broken granite tiles? Before you replace your granite, consider having us provide expert granite repair services. We can fill holes in granite, fix granite cracks and chips, blending the repair site with the surrounding area, and honing and polishing it to match the finish on the rest of your granite floor, countertop or other granite surface.
Granite cleaning processes vary based on the surface condition and type of dirt or oil being removed. Granite floors are easier to keep clean with periodic professional deep cleaning services, using highly-effective cleaning solutions. N-Motion Stone & Tile Restoration can assist you in not only cleaning your granite surfaces, but in keeping your granite properly polished, maintained, and free of scratches to help make regular cleaning and care of your stone easier.
Most common stains on granite can be removed. Whether you are seeking guidance on how to do this yourself (refer to our Stain Management app) or want us to treat stains on your granite, the original color and finish of your granite can most likely be restored.
Do your granite floors or granite countertops have dull areas associated with wear patterns, scratches, etches or spots? N-Motion Stone & Tile Restoration can hone your granite surfaces to eliminate these imperfections, resulting in a new granite surface free of damage. With our granite honing services, our expert technicians can achieve a honed or soft matte finish that is warm, inviting, and velvety smooth.
An uneven finish, dull spots, stains or etches can diminish the elegant appearance of your granite. N-Motion Stone & Tile Restoration can polish your granite using granite-specific equipment and supplies to restore the finish you want, whether matte, semi-gloss or gloss finish. With our granite polishing services, our expert technicians can achieve a beautiful, glass-like polish.
Are your tiles uneven? Do you want your granite tile floor flattened? N-Motion Stone & Tile Restoration can grind away the excess stone to create a flat, level surface using state-of-the art diamond grinding technology. Once flattened, the granite is honed and polished to the finish you want.
Your granite may need a little extra protection to protect it from staining.
Some natural stone types are more porous than others, and the more porous a natural stone is, the more susceptible it is to staining. We may recommend that you have your granite sealed to enhance its stain resistance. We say, “may” because not all stone needs to be sealed. Highly polished stone may not even take an impregnating sealer. But, if sealing is recommended, know that sealing represents an inexpensive, preventative measure against stain damage because it buys you time to wipe up spills before they become stains.
Spill a few drops of water on several areas of your granite surface, especially where they get the most use. Allow the water to dwell for a few minutes, then wipe it away. After a couple of seconds, if you see that the area where the water was remains darker, indicating that the water was absorbed into the stone, it’s time to re-seal.

If you have questions about the care and cleaning of your stone, please CONTACT US.
The short answer is yes, granite does require maintenance. Regular cleaning with a stone safe cleaner is a great for simple day-to-day maintenance, but over time, floors can develop grout lines that just won’t come clean, shiny scratches, and increasingly obvious traffic patterns. Countertops can become scratched, dull and etched.
As these problems develop, you become more and more dissatisfied with the appearance of the floors or other granite surfaces until it’s time for another round of professional restoration. Ask us about customizing a regularly scheduled maintenance program to keep your granite looking great all the time, without the need for periodic restoration.
